RSL Story

"So, what do you do for a living?" asked one of my new officemates.  I responded, "I am starting a new church here in Sugar Land."  My new friend said, "That's great.  So, what do you do?"

I get that question all the time and it makes sense of course.  When you meet someone and you are trying to get to know them, you want to find out who they are, where they come from, what they are up to.  It is almost like the moment we meet someone and we try to get to know them, what we are really asking is, "What is your story?"

What is the story of Redeemer Sugar Land?  Why is this new community of people gathering to serve one another and our community?  If you spend enough time around RSL then you will hear this phrase, "Redeemer Sugar Land is a community of faith, provoked by the Redeemer's love, to serve Sugar Land and beyond."  You can find out about the story of who we are, why we are, and what we are doing in Sugar Land with that simple phrase.  What this phrase or mission statement is saying is that we are people who follow Jesus.

Jesus says in the Bible that the greatest commandment in all of the Scriptures is this, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and all your strength.  The second is like it, love your neighbor as yourself."  This simple creed of loving God and loving others can transform one's life.  It reminds us that we are defined not simply by what we accomplish, what we are able to gather, or even by how much frustration and brokenness is on our lives.  Rather, we are defined by the reality that the Creator of Heaven and Earth loves humankind and it is His will that we echo that love toward others.  In other words, we are a people who follow Jesus and His message of grace in the gospel.

So what is the story of RSL?  The story is this:  We are a people who believe that God loves deeply and He enables us to love others just as deeply.  I invite you to become part of this new community of faith in Sugar Land to taste the genuine love of God found in Jesus Christ.  Wherever you are in your journey of exploring who God is, Redeemer Sugar Land is a community of people where you can explore that in the context of friendships.  If you would like to talk more about Redeemer Sugar Land or anything else, please email me at  the church office.  I would truly delight to talk with you more.

Peace,
Rev. Bradley G. Wright
